AR500 vs NM500

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

AR500

Wear-Resistant Plate

AR500 is the 500-class abrasion-resistant plate of the North American market — again a hardness class (about 460–540 HBW) rather than an ASTM chemistry grade, widely used for wear liners and for steel targets. The composition shown is typical mill chemistry; the binding purchase requirements are hardness range and flatness, verified on the MTC.

NM500

Wear-Resistant Plate

NM500 is the 500 HBW abrasion-resistant plate for severe wear: roughly double the service life of NM400 in sliding abrasion, at higher forming and welding demands.
