1.0715 (11SMn30) vs 1.0718 (11SMnPb30)

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

1.0715 (11SMn30)

Carbon Steel

11SMn30 (1.0715) is Europe’s standard sulfur free-cutting steel under EN 10087: about 0.30% sulfur and almost no silicon, giving fast, clean chip-breaking on automatic lathes without lead. It is the default EN bar grade for high-volume turned parts.

1.0718 (11SMnPb30)

Carbon Steel

11SMnPb30 (1.0718) is the leaded version of 11SMn30 and one of the fastest-machining bar steels in the EN system. The lead addition (0.20–0.35%) lubricates the cutting zone, extending tool life and surface finish in mass-production turning.
