430 vs 430F

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

430

Stainless Steel

430 is the most widely used ferritic stainless steel, a 17% chromium, nickel-free grade with good corrosion resistance in mild atmospheres and excellent resistance to nitric acid. It is the standard grade for appliance trim and decorative sheet.

Standards: DIN 1.4016 · AISI 430 · JIS SUS430 · GB 10Cr17

430F

Stainless Steel

430F is the free-machining version of 430, with sulfur added for chip breaking in high-volume screw machining. It keeps the corrosion resistance of 430 in non-welded parts but should not be welded.

Standards: DIN 1.4105 · AISI 430F · JIS SUS430F · GB Y10Cr17
