434 vs 430

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

434

Stainless Steel

434 adds about 1% molybdenum to the 430 base, improving pitting resistance and giving it the best corrosion performance of the straight-chromium ferritic grades below the stabilised super-ferritics. It is a traditional automotive trim grade.

Standards: DIN 1.4113 · AISI 434 · JIS SUS434 · GB 10Cr17Mo

430

Stainless Steel

430 is the most widely used ferritic stainless steel, a 17% chromium, nickel-free grade with good corrosion resistance in mild atmospheres and excellent resistance to nitric acid. It is the standard grade for appliance trim and decorative sheet.

Standards: DIN 1.4016 · AISI 430 · JIS SUS430 · GB 10Cr17
