410S vs 410

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

410S

Stainless Steel

410S is the low-carbon, non-hardening version of 410: with carbon held below 0.08% it does not form brittle martensite in weld heat-affected zones, keeping the ductility and formability that plain 410 loses when welded.

Standards: DIN 1.4000 · AISI 410S (UNS S41008) · GB 0Cr13 (legacy)

410

Stainless Steel

410 is the basic martensitic stainless steel, the lowest-cost grade that can be hardened by heat treatment. It trades corrosion resistance (12% chromium only) for strength, hardness and wear resistance.

Standards: DIN 1.4006 · AISI 410 · JIS SUS410 · GB 12Cr13
