SM570

Data verified

SM570 is the highest-strength grade of JIS G3106 rolled steel for welded structures: tensile 570–720 MPa with yield from 460 MPa, from a lean C-Mn chemistry kept weldable by carbon-equivalent control. It is the JIS counterpart class to GB Q460 and EN S460 plate for weight-critical welded construction.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Long-span bridges, high-rise building columns, crane booms, hydraulic supports, offshore and heavy fabricated structures.

Processing: Weldable with low-hydrogen consumables and controlled heat input; preheat rises with thickness and restraint. Flame cutting and cold forming need the tighter radii of a 570 MPa class plate.

FAQ

SM570 vs SM520?
One strength class apart: SM520 tensile is 520–640 MPa with yield ≥365 MPa, SM570 is 570–720 MPa with yield ≥460 MPa. SM570 saves more weight but demands stricter welding control and is stocked in fewer thicknesses.
