SCM435

Data verified

SCM435 is the JIS Cr-Mo through-hardening steel matching AISI 4135 and EN 34CrMo4 — one step below SCM440/4140 in carbon, with slightly easier welding and machining at nearly the same Q&T strength level. It is a staple of Japanese bolt, shaft and machinery production.

Applications & Processing

Applications: High-strength bolts and studs, shafts, connecting rods, machine components, pressure parts.

Processing: As 4135/34CrMo4: machines well annealed, welds with preheat (150–250 °C) and low-hydrogen practice.

FAQ

SCM435 or SCM440?
SCM440 (4140 class) has more carbon and hardens a little deeper; SCM435 is chosen where its 930 MPa class strength suffices and weldability or machining matters more.
