S35C

Data verified

S35C is the JIS medium-carbon steel matching AISI 1035 / EN C35 — the entry point of the genuinely heat-treatable carbon steels, used for small shafts, bolts and machine parts across Japanese and Asian machinery production.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Small shafts, studs and bolts, levers, machine keys, agricultural machinery parts.

Processing: Machines well normalized; water/oil quench only in thin sections — for reliable through-hardening in larger sections step up to SCM435/4140-class alloy steel.

FAQ

Can S35C be flame or induction hardened?
Yes — at 0.35% carbon it responds to surface hardening to roughly 45–52 HRC, a common low-cost route for wear tracks on shafts and rails.
