430

Data verified

430 is the most widely used ferritic stainless steel, a 17% chromium, nickel-free grade with good corrosion resistance in mild atmospheres and excellent resistance to nitric acid. It is the standard grade for appliance trim and decorative sheet.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Dishwasher and refrigerator panels, range hoods, automotive trim, nitric acid equipment, roofing and cladding.

Processing: Formable but less ductile than 304; welding is possible but the heat-affected zone loses toughness, so it is less suited to heavy welded fabrications.

FAQ

How can I tell 430 from 304?
A magnet: 430 is ferritic and strongly magnetic, annealed 304 is essentially non-magnetic. Chemically, 430 contains no nickel.
