410S
Data verified410S is the low-carbon, non-hardening version of 410: with carbon held below 0.08% it does not form brittle martensite in weld heat-affected zones, keeping the ductility and formability that plain 410 loses when welded.

Heat treatment
Anneal 830–900 °C. The low carbon deliberately prevents hardening — 410S stays soft and ferritic through weld thermal cycles.

Applications & Processing
Applications: Exhaust system components, petrochemical internals, annealing boxes, rail and bus body structures, welded 12% Cr fabrications.
Processing: Excellent weldability for a stainless grade (no preheat in thin sections), good formability; corrosion resistance is mild-service only, as with all 12% Cr grades.
FAQ
- 410S vs 410 — which for a welded fabrication?
- 410S. Plain 410 hardens in the weld zone and cracks without preheat and post-weld temper; 410S was designed to stay soft and ductile, at the price of lower strength.
