1.0715 (11SMn30)
Data verified11SMn30 (1.0715) is Europe’s standard sulfur free-cutting steel under EN 10087: about 0.30% sulfur and almost no silicon, giving fast, clean chip-breaking on automatic lathes without lead. It is the default EN bar grade for high-volume turned parts.
Chemical composition
| Element | Content (%) |
|---|---|
| C | ≤0.14 |
| Si | ≤0.05 |
| Mn | 0.90–1.30 |
| P | ≤0.11 |
| S | 0.27–0.33 |
Weight percent, per the governing standard ranges. Actual values per heat are on the mill certificate.
Properties
| Tensile strength | 380–510 MPa (delivery-condition dependent) |
| Machinability | Excellent (reference class for EN free-cutting) |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Heat treatment
Used as-rolled, peeled or cold drawn; the low carbon gives no useful hardening response.

Applications & Processing
Applications: Turned fittings, fasteners, hydraulic connectors, bushings and small shafts across European machining shops.
Processing: Excellent machinability and consistent quality in bright (drawn/peeled) execution; poor weldability; not for structural or pressure duty.
FAQ
- 11SMn30 vs 11SMnPb30?
- Same base chemistry; the Pb version adds 0.20–0.35% lead for still higher cutting speeds and better surface finish. Where lead is restricted (RoHS-sensitive parts), 11SMn30 is the fallback.
