314 vs 310

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

314

Stainless Steel

314 is a heat-resistant grade like 310 but with silicon raised to 1.50–3.00% for still better scaling resistance in cyclic high-temperature service. It is a speciality grade, stocked far less widely than 310S.

Standards: AISI 314 · JIS SUS314

310

Stainless Steel

310 is a 25Cr-20Ni heat-resistant austenitic grade with excellent oxidation resistance up to about 1035 °C in continuous service. Its higher carbon gives better high-temperature strength than 310S but more carbide precipitation on welding.

Standards: DIN 1.4841 · AISI 310 · JIS SUS310 · GB 12Cr25Ni20
