A572 Gr.65 vs S460ML

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

A572 Gr.65

Structural & HSLA Steel

ASTM A572 Grade 65 tops the A572 family at 65 ksi yield. It is the American route to S460-class weight savings in buildings and bridges without leaving the familiar A572 specification and its welding practice.

S460ML

Structural & HSLA Steel

S460ML is a thermomechanically rolled fine-grain steel to EN 10025-4 with a 460 MPa yield and impact toughness guaranteed to −50 °C. TMCP processing gives this strength at very low carbon, so weldability stays excellent for a 460-class steel.
