Nitriding

Diffusing nitrogen into the steel surface at 500–570 °C to form hard nitrides, without quenching and with minimal distortion. Gives very high surface hardness and corrosion resistance on steels containing Cr, Mo, Al or V, such as 41CrAlMo7.
