SKD7 vs H10

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

SKD7

Tool Steel

SKD7 is a JIS hot work tool steel of the 3% Cr–3% Mo–V type, the near counterpart of AISI H10. Its molybdenum-rich chemistry trades some of the 5% Cr grades’ oxidation margin for high hot strength and resistance to heat checking in forging and extrusion service.

Standards: DIN 1.2365 (32CrMoV12-28, near) · AISI H10 (near) · JIS SKD7 (JIS G4404) · GB 3Cr3Mo3V (near)

H10

Tool Steel

H10 is a Cr-Mo hot work steel with lower chromium and higher molybdenum than H13, giving it better thermal conductivity and heat-check resistance in water-cooled dies. It is a long-standing choice for brass and aluminum extrusion tooling.
