410S vs 410L
These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.
410S
Stainless Steel
410S is the low-carbon, non-hardening version of 410: with carbon held below 0.08% it does not form brittle martensite in weld heat-affected zones, keeping the ductility and formability that plain 410 loses when welded.
Standards: DIN 1.4000 · AISI 410S (UNS S41008) · GB 0Cr13 (legacy)
410L
Stainless Steel
410L is a low-carbon 12% chromium ferritic stainless: reducing carbon below 0.03% keeps it soft, weldable and free of the hardening seen in 410. It is a workhorse for containers, transport and structural applications in mildly corrosive environments.
Standards: DIN 1.4003 · AISI 410L · JIS SUS410L · GB 022Cr12
