1010 vs 1008

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

1010

Carbon Steel

1010 is a low carbon steel for lightly loaded parts that need good formability, weldability and an optional carburized case. It is widely stocked as cold drawn bar for machined components.

Standards: DIN 1.0301 (C10) · AISI 1010 · JIS S10C · GB 10

1008

Carbon Steel

1008 is a very low carbon steel with excellent cold formability and weldability. It is the standard grade for cold-headed fasteners, wire products and deep-drawn parts where strength demands are minimal.

Standards: DIN C8 (near) · AISI 1008 · JIS S09CK (near) · GB 08 (near)
