1.0737 (11SMnPb37) vs 1.0718 (11SMnPb30)

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

1.0737 (11SMnPb37)

Carbon Steel

11SMnPb37 (1.0737) pushes the EN leaded free-cutting concept furthest: sulfur raised to 0.34–0.40% and manganese to 1.00–1.50% on top of the standard lead addition, for maximum chip-breaking and cutting speed on the most demanding automatic-lathe work.

1.0718 (11SMnPb30)

Carbon Steel

11SMnPb30 (1.0718) is the leaded version of 11SMn30 and one of the fastest-machining bar steels in the EN system. The lead addition (0.20–0.35%) lubricates the cutting zone, extending tool life and surface finish in mass-production turning.
