S460M vs Q460C

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

S460M

Structural & HSLA Steel

S460M is the −20 °C quality of the TMCP 460 grade to EN 10025-4. Controlled rolling and accelerated cooling deliver 460 MPa yield at only 0.16% carbon maximum, so designers get S460 strength with weldability closer to an S355. For −50 °C service the same chemistry is ordered as S460ML.

Q460C

Structural & HSLA Steel

Q460C is the 460 MPa class of GB/T 1591, the standard high-strength grade for landmark Chinese steel structures — it was the principal grade of the Beijing National Stadium. Quality C guarantees impact toughness at 0 °C.
